About GA Virtual Learning
Georgia Virtual Learning empowers Georgia students and educators with flexible educational options, supporting learning anytime and anywhere. We act as the headquarters for Georgia Department of Education’s online education. Georgia Virtual Learning started with the Georgia Virtual School program (GaVS) which has been providing schools and students with options and opportunities to supplement public, private, and home school course offerings since 2005. On May 4, 2005, Governor Sonny Perdue signed the Georgia Virtual School bill, O.C.G.A. 20-2-31, into law establishing the first official state virtual school.
The Georgia Virtual Learning programs receive funding through an annual appropriation and course fees from enrolling schools and students. The Georgia Virtual Learning programs do not grant credits or issue diplomas but work in partnership with the local school districts to record student grades.
