Who can take an AP course at GaVS?

GaVS intends AP courses for students in grades 9-12.

Please read the College Board’s statement on which courses may receive the AP designation and the College Board’s guidance regarding recommendation of particular grade levels for AP courses.

GAVS does not recommend that students in middle school take AP courses.

How is college credit awarded for AP exams?

Students have the opportunity to earn college credit based on the scores earned on the AP Exams. Each college and university has its own policies regarding AP credit and placement. The College Board offers information about AP credit at thousands of colleges and universities.

When are AP exams administered and what is the format of AP exams?

The College Board administers AP Exams each year in May. The exams typically take 2-3 hours and include two sections: multiple-choice questions and free-response items such as essays, problem solving, document-based questions and verbal responses.

Where do GaVS students take their AP exams?

Please note: As an online provider, GaVS cannot administer AP exams. Students must register for AP exams and make payment to their local high school. Public and private school students taking AP courses at GaVS will take their AP exams at their schools.

Contact the AP Coordinator at your school to make arrangements.

 

Public/Private School

Payment for AP exams will be made to the public or private school.
For example, if you are a student at Lambert High School, but you are taking AP Environmental Science at GAVS, you will contact your AP Coordinator at Lambert High School to register and to pay for your AP Exam.

 

Homeschool

If you’re homeschooled within the state of Georgia, you’ll need to make arrangements to take exams at a local public school in the district in which you reside.  Effective July 1, 2025, Georgia public schools are required to administer Advanced Placement exams to homeschooled students who reside in their district.

How do I request testing accommodations for AP exams?

Students who need testing accommodations for AP exams may request accommodations from College Board’s Services for Students with Disabilities department. Information about AP Exam accommodations can be found on AP Students College Board site.

The process used to request accommodations for College Board exams differs from the process used for school or state exams. An explanation of the process may be viewed on the Request Exam Accommodations.
