GaTutor Qualification Requirements

GaTutor seeks highly qualified educators committed to supporting student success in an online learning environment. Competitive applicants generally possess the following qualifications:

  • Certification & Expertise: Applicants must hold a current Georgia teaching certificate in their respective content area. Successful candidates demonstrate a strong understanding of the Georgia Standards for the course(s) they seek to tutor.
  • Experience: Qualified tutors have prior classroom teaching experience and bring instructional leadership from face-to-face or virtual settings. Previous online tutoring or teaching experience is preferred.
  • Technology Proficiency: Tutors should possess strong 21st-century technology skills and be comfortable using digital platforms for instruction. They should be adaptable and eager to implement innovative online instructional strategies.
  • Communication Skills: Effective online tutoring requires clear, professional communication with students, parents, and colleagues. Tutors should demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment & Availability: GaTutor serves students across Georgia, and tutors must be dedicated to providing high-quality academic support. Tutors must be available for a minimum of 12 sessions (6 hours) per week during the following hours:
  • Monday–Friday: 4–10 PM
  • Saturday: 10 AM–8 PM
  • Sunday: 1–8 PM

Step By Step Process: Become an Active Tutor

Step 1

Openings Announced

GaTutor will post available positions on the website, social media, and other platforms to be shared publicly.

Step 2

Apply

Candidates complete an online application for review and email teaching certificate and resume to hiring@gatutor.org.

Step 3

Interview

Qualified candidates will be invited to schedule a virtual interview if selected.

About The Interview

GaTutor administration/staff will present information about the induction and training process. They will also discuss teaching qualifications and experience with candidates and offer time for questions.

After The Interview

Following the interview, preferred candidates then complete the first two courses of Effective Online Teaching Pathway: Professional Responsibilities and Digital Pedagogy. These courses are based on the National Standards for Quality Online Teaching. You don’t need to pay for the entire pathway; you can pay for each course individually. Step 4

Contract Offer

GaTutor extends a hiring offer and collects all required documents to establish the candidate as a new vendor/contractor. Contracts are issued and signed by the candidate.

Step 5

Training

Recent hires complete all DOE mandated training courses and NTT (New Tutor Training). All training must be complete prior to working with students.

Step 6

Time to Tutor

Hired tutor chooses open time slots and begins tutoring.
