Public & Private Schools

Georgia Virtual School (GaVS) offers opportunities and options for Georgia students to engage in Advanced Placement, college preparatory, career and technical courses, and other electives online to enhance their learning experiences.

For a student who has completed seat time and calendar requirements, the Georgia Credit Recovery (GaCR) program provides earned credit based on credit standard competency.

GaTutor also provides free one-on-one tutoring sessions to public 9-12 grade students. Our tutors possess Georgia certification and expertise in various content areas.

Participation Requirements

Local schools must provide students access to an internet connected computer. If the student takes the course at home, the school needs to verify the child has access. GaVS requires the local school to provide a facilitator to act as liaison between the local and virtual school.

For participation in Georgia Credit Recovery, the local school must provide a coordinator for students. Coordinators are responsible for proctoring all final exams and it is highly recommended that all post tests are proctored. As a final expectation for program participation, the school will agree to accept and transcribe the student’s grades at the end of the semester. GaVS and GaCR do not grant credit.

Facilitator Information

Georgia Virtual School requires a local facilitator for each participating school. In addition to getting students approved and into their courses, facilitators have the following responsibilities:

  • Work with the local technical support staff to ensure computers meet necessary requirements and that all required additional software is downloaded.
  • Review student course history and verify the student selected an appropriate course.
  • Approve or deny all course requests through the GaVS portal.
  • Upload any special documentation regarding student needs to the GaVS portal.
  • Agree to make sure credit is assigned and transcribed on the student's school record.
  • Schedule required Georgia Milestones End of Course (EOC) assessments or Advanced Placement exams.
