Credit Recovery FAQs
The program offers free access to Georgia public high schools that choose to participate. First-time enrollments are free for all Georgia public high school students, but students who need to re-enroll in a credit recovery course must pay a $25 re-enrollment fee. Private school students can use the Georgia Credit Recovery Program at a cost of $100 per half-credit course and $200 per full-credit course. CR requires schools to assign a credit recovery coordinator, and this cost isn’t funded by GaDOE.
Students must contact the local school coordinator to be enrolled in GaCR courses.
Courses are free for Georgia public school students, and if a public school student needs to re-enroll in the same course, a $25 fee is charged to the school.
Private schools are charged $100 per half credit, and if a student needs to re-enroll, they must pay the full enrollment fee.
To start your GaCR course, you must complete the Credit Recovery Acknowledgement quiz. Each module includes a required pre-test, lesson material, and a post-test. You need to score 70% or higher on each post-test to progress. ELA courses also require one or two essays. Finally, you must complete the final exam or Georgia Milestones assessment.
Schools must agree to provide a Credit Recovery Coordinator. This person will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Enroll students in courses
- Monitor student progress
- Enter Georgia Milestones score when students have completed the test
- Proctor final exams
- Transcribe final grades on student transcripts
Public school students, regardless of their previous Georgia Milestones score, must retake the Georgia Milestones assessment and the score should be reported on the student transcript.
Private school students will be required to complete the final exam provided in the course.
No, the course must be the same course and course code that the student previously failed.
Credit Recovery courses naturally incorporate many IEP or 504 Plan accommodations. Students receive extended time for post-tests, access all notes and lessons via Content pages, and can prepare for unit post-tests at their own pace within a 26-week period.
Any additional accommodations must be provided by the local school.
The NCAA does not accept GaDOE’s Credit Recovery Program course credits for its student athletes. Georgia Virtual School credits will still be accepted by the NCAA.
